Some news II

Hey guys,
time to post about some stuff that happened recently:
• Dexter is back, again. Welcome buddy, add your box under "Player Info" please. ![]()
• Bachi is taking a two-months trip to Chile, so he wont be able to play for quite some time.
• SAMY turns 17 tomorrow, so make sure to wish him all the best if you see him on the servers!
• I dropped my new Deathadder and returned to the Diamondback 3G, feels much better, much more precise, much more DEADLY. ![]()
• We got a new team picture on guleague.org, which marks the 30th teamlogo since phago was founded (yep, I stored them all). Sounds like its time to put them all online somewhere, so one can see all of them again.
• Remind me to update the guleague activity graph! I already got an up to date image, just need to upload it.
• Just finished the new header image, I had the feeling its time for a fresh look. Looks a bit wrong though... I'm not entirely sure if the orange/dark-red combination is really incongruous or if its just me being used to the old image. Time will tell - and your feedback!
• Last but not least Carnage has made a very informative video about the relatively new teleporter pass, so in case you dont know how to perform it yet:
Although I find the term "hax pass" a little inappropriate and misleading, thank you very much for the video, this is great for newer players who want to get into GU.
Oh, and I havent forgotten about the "teams that made guleague what it is"-post, just didnt get around to write it yet. Was busy matching, I guess.
Some news

The semester in Germany is drawing to a close and I gotta write lots of exams these weeks... thats why we havent been on the servers lately (pretty much since the RikerCup), which is sad, but inevitable. I'll try to be back after the 11th of February, because I'm really missing the matches with most of you.
Played a great one with ForestForce today and really enjoyed it. However, dexter left phago again, I guess mainly because we're too inactive... no clue if he'll come back again, but he seems happy with Redux for now.
Besides these bad news, we have something good in stock, too: Happy birthday benji 18!
Hoping you have a good one! ![]()
Why its sometimes very refreshing to play an offline game
By dexter on Sep 22, 2008 | In miscellaneous, BZFlag | 2 feedbacks »
A lot of people, that are mostly involved in online games, forget how nice it is, to play an offline game from time to time. You aren't preoccupied with what other people think of you or have to make sure you always follow the rules. There's really no pressure involved at all. You have no obligation to preform in front of other players.
Save and load at any time you want, or just quit the game. No "cya guys, gg was fun" bla-bla stuff. You end the game and you can think of something completely different within an instant. With online games, a big part is being social. Good online games have good communities. Communicating with other players, constantly asking answering questions and all that. When you're in the right mood, this can be very enjoyable. However, being grumpy is basically frowned upon and does not really help your reputation. Not saying hello to somebody can cost you a round of "omg y didnt u say hi earlier 2day??" or something similar. Often, one can't quite get their mind off of something that happened earlier. When you sit down and play a round of Fifa, there is no such thing as an unexpected incident. Everything is very predictable. Which is exactly what makes it relaxing.
Another thing is, you don't have to deal with "lag" "thru" "hax" or some other accusations that are just annoying and tiresome.
After a couple days of offline gaming, you can also appreciate a good BZFlag funmatch a lot more. So, don't just stick to one game all the time, try to mix it up a bit. ![]()
Let us know what ya think!
the blog's theme
By Saturos on Sep 8, 2008 | In miscellaneous | Send feedback »
I finally got around changing the looks of this blog, replacing a few images. While I totally love the background (with all the member's names), I'm not too proud of the header image. It's a cool photo, but somehow it doesn't really fit in. The '[phagozytose]' + punchline in the middle doesn't go well either. It can stay for now, but I hope to find something more apposite to the rest soon.
Edit: Okay, I made a new header. Too bad for those of you who couldnt see the old one, but I am sure you would like the new one better. ![]()
