Why its sometimes very refreshing to play an offline game

By dexter on Sep 22, 2008 | In miscellaneous, BZFlag | 2 feedbacks »

A lot of people, that are mostly involved in online games, forget how nice it is, to play an offline game from time to time. You aren't preoccupied with what other people think of you or have to make sure you always follow the rules. There's really no pressure involved at all. You have no obligation to preform in front of other players.
Save and load at any time you want, or just quit the game. No "cya guys, gg was fun" bla-bla stuff. You end the game and you can think of something completely different within an instant. With online games, a big part is being social. Good online games have good communities. Communicating with other players, constantly asking answering questions and all that. When you're in the right mood, this can be very enjoyable. However, being grumpy is basically frowned upon and does not really help your reputation. Not saying hello to somebody can cost you a round of "omg y didnt u say hi earlier 2day??" or something similar. Often, one can't quite get their mind off of something that happened earlier. When you sit down and play a round of Fifa, there is no such thing as an unexpected incident. Everything is very predictable. Which is exactly what makes it relaxing.
Another thing is, you don't have to deal with "lag" "thru" "hax" or some other accusations that are just annoying and tiresome.
After a couple days of offline gaming, you can also appreciate a good BZFlag funmatch a lot more. So, don't just stick to one game all the time, try to mix it up a bit. :)

bzflag.org shirt contest update

By Saturos on Sep 18, 2008 | In team | Send feedback »

As I posted earlier, theres a t-shirt contest on bzbb. Up to now nobody has sent in a shirt design, iirc the deadline is set to be the 28th which gives everybody 10 more days. I wonder if lots of people are secretly working on designs or if its just Winny (you're on it, arent you?) and me. I would love to show you what Dex, Bachi and me have done so far but I feel, tactically, that wouldnt be smart. We've developed a very complex strategy about when to post what, so stay tuned. ;)

Maybe just this one thing: it'll be very different from the last shirt design as I didnt want to copy my own work. That would have been kinda lame. It wont be that versatile. Some may not like the new one at all, but I wanted to try something unexplored.

BZNames

A couple of months ago, I realized, that I see a lot of BZFlag callsigns/team names when I'm walking through town or other places.
I thought that it would be really cool, if I could take a picture of that callsign or name and group all of these pictures together after a couple of months.

[inside look] : Eight projects that never came to live

By Saturos on Sep 12, 2008 | In team, endo network | 2 feedbacks »

We at phago are always trying to build stuff around BZFlag... some of the projects we started actually made it into public and you might have heard of them (movies, bzcontests, shirts, bzadvertisement). However, there's a bunch of unfinished stuff which is on hold. Mostly due to laziness, not enough time or lofty goals. Here's a list of those, you might find it interesting.

Player Info

Ever been disappointed at an empty players profile on the GU page? Wanted to know more about somebody but never felt like asking?
Well, we've set up a nice 'Player Info' page, where you can look up some information on (hopefully) every [phago] member. Have a look. :)

cool stuff

I just implemented a widget displaying some [phago]-stats. Yes, they are live and read the information right from the league page. Time will tell if loading times get a lot longer due to bzleague.com, but for now I like the stats. :)

I hope thats fine with you, meno?
